The Beni Ouarain Carpet

Beni Ouarain rug Berber Handmade Moroccan Atlas Mountains carpet

Soo different than Persian rugs, and yet elegant and sophisticated in its own way. These beautiful “White Giants” have a simple geometric design on a background of undyed natural sheep wool.

Beni Ouarain rugs are handwoven by a group of Berber tribes living in the North Eastern part of the Middle Atlas Mountains. They are always loosely knotted with a medium or long pile of wool.

Here at Emily’s House the vintage Beni rugs have always been an integral part of the collection and aesthetics, yet we also source a growing number of new made Beni Ouarain rugs, all one-off pieces handmade with excellent wool quality using traditional weaving techniques.

The advantage of these newer styles is that they have good standard sizes of 200x300cm, 250x2350cm or 300x400cm. They always have a crispy white natural wool background with a darker coloured simple geometric design.

Here at Emily’s House we have both new made and vintage Beni Ouarain carpets.
