Style- Jute rugs
The jute rug is a great all rounder and appealing to a wide variety of projects and interiors, from contemporary homes to Scandinavian, bohemian, eclectic interiors or for classic country homes.
It has a thickness of 1cm and the ends are just under 1.5cm in height and woven in a thinner braided weave. (think about doors opening and closing..)

Materials and texture: Jute
It is handmade in India by skilled craftspeople with high quality materials with a plain design. The ends have slightly raised borders in a thinner braided weave. The weave is the same on both sides so this makes every rug reversible too.
Its texture is flat woven and soft to touch. Its thick braided weave makes it heavy and it sits sturdy on the floor. The rug will not move around on the floor and does not need any underlay.
Due to the nature of the material and weave, there will be some loose strands popping out. These can just be cut off (it is not like a wooly jumper where the whole thing falls apart after cutting one little tread…) or tucked in again.

Age
The jute rugs are new made, unused and handmade with excellent jute quality.
Typical for natural fibres like this, is that there will be some shedding underneath in the first months. Jute grows in low waters and so is also absorbs sand while growing. We do everything we can to minimise the shedding but it can not be completely avoided.
Production
The rugs are woven in a workshop in India with focus on good working conditions and fair wages in line with The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, key UN conventions, ILO conventions and recommendations.
Maintaining and caring for your carpet
Jute is a soft material and is low in maintenance. Both sides are woven in the same way so it is also reversible.
It is best to vacuum your jute rug on a lower setting and make sure you also do the reverse now and then as just as much dust accumulates there, as on the front.
Stain treatment
The quicker you deal with spills, the less chance there is of it staining.
Jute is a natural material and like all natural fibres, can be sensitive to staining. Water marks however are fine and settle relatively quickly (based on my own experience with my kitchen jute rug) but may leave a soft stain.
Don’t use any bleach or chemical treatments as they might take the stain out, but leave a lighter stain instead. If you need advice on this, please get in touch.
Jute
Jute is a long soft material that can be spun into coarse strong threads. Jute is one of the most affordable natural fibres, and second only to cotton in the amount produced and variety of uses. The jute plant needs standing water to thrive.
The suitable climate for growing jute is warm and wet and therefore South India is great for jute production with its monsoon climate, humidity and temperatures from 20-40degrees.
